History beckons in Ibadanland as Governor Seyi Makinde has formally approved the nomination of High Chief Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, former governor of Oyo State and the Osi Olubadan of Ibadanland, as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadan.

According to the governor’s approval, the coronation will take place on Thursday, September 26, 2025 a date that now carries double joy for me, as it coincides with my birthday. It is rare for personal celebrations to align with moments of history, but this year, September 26 will stand as a day of culture, tradition, renewal, and personal thanksgiving.

Chief Ladoja’s ascension symbolizes not only continuity in the rich tradition of Ibadan chieftaincy but also the triumph of patience, resilience, and destiny fulfilled. His revered personality, leadership experience, and deep-rooted love for Ibadanland have positioned him as a unifying figure, capable of carrying forward the legacy of the Olubadan stool.

For the people of Ibadan and Oyo State at large, September 26 will mark the beginning of a new chapter in the cultural heritage of our land. For me, it will forever remain an extraordinary birthday gift — to share my day with the crowning of a man whose story inspires perseverance and greatness.

As we count down to the coronation, the city of Ibadan prepares to celebrate not just a new king, but also the resilience of its traditions and the enduring spirit of its people.
